Musculoskeletal Oncology

The Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology handles bone and soft tissue tumours in children and adults. It has three full-time musculoskeletal oncologists who have between them, more than 50 years of experience and 100 publications which have been credited with significant discoveries in musculoskeletal oncology. Our oncologists also have dual roles as joint replacement or microsurgical surgeons. Therefore, they are able to offer a wide variety of abilities, from prosthetic to bone transplant. This ensures the division is well-equipped in meeting the needs of such a highly demanding field in South-East Asia.

Figures (a) and (b): This is a case of an osteosarcoma of the proximal femur (arrowed). With our multi-disciplinary setup, we were able to resect the proximal femur and pelvis, cryopreserve and re-implant the patient's own pelvis and replace the lost femoral segment with megaprosthesis.

Figures (c) and (d): For other tumours, we are able to use CT fluoroscopy to target probes and freeze them in situ without resorting to large open procedures
